Burglary conviction brings 8-year sentence

A Town of Union burglary ended with a guilty verdict and a long prison term, according to WIVT/WBGH. Prosecutors say a man broke into a home in August, then ran from Broome County sheriff’s deputies during the investigation.

Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced this week that a jury convicted Jeremiah Johnson, 45, of second-degree burglary. Authorities said he knowingly entered a dwelling intending to commit a crime.

Johnson now faces eight years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Battisti said the case reflects the office’s push to hold people accountable for crimes that threaten community safety.
