Farm Bureau reverses stance on sewage sludge use

The New York Farm Bureau now opposes spreading sewage sludge on farmland unless it’s tested for PFAS and heavy metals, citing health concerns, according to Spectrum News.

The policy shift follows their annual convention, where members voted to support mandatory testing by the state before land application. Previously, the group opposed local bans on sludge use and backed its fertilizer benefits.

The change comes as lawmakers prepare to revisit a stalled bill that would impose a five-year moratorium on biosolids.
