After 43 days, the longest U.S. government shutdown is over, News10NBC reports. President Trump signed a temporary funding bill Wednesday night, but the effects of the shutdown are far from resolved.
SNAP benefits in New York are shifting back to federal funding, though delays are likely. In the Rochester area alone, over 135,000 people rely on the program, and local food banks are still under strain. Air travel is also recovering slowly, with a 6% flight reduction and ongoing staff shortages at major airports.
Healthcare remains a flashpoint in Congress, and with funding only secured through January, another shutdown could be around the corner.
