New York officials condemned former Mayor Rudy Giuliani after he said Mayor Zohran Mamdani should not attend this year’s 9/11 memorial, according to Spectrum News 1.
During a Newsmax appearance, Giuliani compared Mamdani, who is Muslim, to the attackers.
Mamdani said he will attend Friday’s reading of victims’ names and focus on bereaved families and first responders.
Governor Kathy Hochul criticized Giuliani’s remarks as divisive, while Attorney General Letitia James and Senator Chuck Schumer defended Mamdani’s attendance.
The Sept. 11 ceremony will mark 25 years since the terrorist attacks.
