Syracuse University won’t sign President Trump’s higher ed compact, which ties federal funds to strict admissions and tuition rules, according to State of Politics.
The plan offers more funding in exchange for freezing tuition, capping international students, and banning race or gender in admissions. Chancellor Kent Syverud said parts of the compact make sense, but the university won’t agree to it as written.
He left the door open to reconsidering if revisions are made and trustees approve. Syverud plans to step down in June 2026.
