Horseheads leaking 160M gallons of water yearly

Horseheads is losing over 160 million gallons of water a year — about 60% of its supply — according to WENY News.

A 2,500-foot pipe near Mill Street Pond is responsible for at least 54 million gallons of that loss. The village is working with engineers to find the full scope of leaks and must fix them by 2027 or face fines.

Mayor Kevin Adams said officials are seeking grants to cover the cost of repairs.
