A missing child was found safe in Trumansburg and a wildland fire was extinguished the same week in Bath, according to state officials.
The incidents occurred March 3 in Tompkins County and March 15 in Steuben County, involving Forest Rangers and local emergency crews.
In Trumansburg, a 10-year-old was reported missing at 6:30 a.m. near State Route 96 and Halseyville Road.
Environmental Conservation Police contacted Forest Rangers at 9:47 a.m., prompting a search involving six Rangers, state police, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ulysses Fire Department.
Officials said the child was last seen the previous night at bedtime, with a reported sighting at 1 a.m. on Route 96.
At 10:40 a.m., the child walked out of the woods toward highway workers and was evaluated by Trumansburg Emergency Medical Services.
Crews cleared the scene at 12:10 p.m.
In Bath, Forest Ranger Miller joined firefighters at 2:15 p.m. at a wildland fire off Robie Road near Moss Hill State Forest.
Firefighters contained and extinguished the 10.9-acre fire by 3:33 p.m., and officials said it was caused by burning debris.
