Auburn man faces felony charge after domestic incident, violating court order

A man was arrested in Auburn last week after police say he violated a full stay-away order of protection during a domestic incident.

On September 20 around 6:59 p.m., Auburn Police responded to 213 N. Seward Ave. after receiving a report of a verbal domestic dispute. According to the department, officers spoke with a witness who had recorded the incident and learned that 39-year-old Michael F. Abdelhady had been arguing with a woman outside the residence.

An investigation revealed that Abdelhady was under a full stay-away order of protection issued by Auburn City Court. Police say he engaged in a verbal altercation with the protected individual before leaving the area in a vehicle. Officers located his vehicle nearby and initiated a traffic stop, taking him into custody without incident.

Abdelhady was charged with criminal contempt in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and aggravated family offense, a class E felony. He was processed at Auburn Police Department Headquarters and then transported to the Cayuga County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
