An 18-year-old was arrested following an investigation into a $20,000 fraud involving an elderly Williamson resident.
Aidan Chun Loong Chan, 18, of 9 Walnut Lane in Hicksville, was taken into custody Sunday at 2:48 p.m. by State Police investigators.
Authorities said the case began Aug. 2 when the victim received a phone call claiming their bank account had been compromised.
The caller instructed the victim to withdraw $20,000, place it in an envelope and give it to a supposed bank carrier.
Investigators said Chan acted as the “runner” who picked up the money.
He was charged with grand larceny in the third degree and taken to the Wayne County Jail for CAP Court arraignment before being released on his own recognizance.
Officials said he was scheduled to appear in Williamson Town Court on March 25.
A second suspect, a 17-year-old from Queens, was also arrested and charged with grand larceny in the third degree.
Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify others involved, and the stolen money has not been recovered.
