New York State seeks public input on 2025–2030 outdoor recreation plan

New York State is asking residents to weigh in on its draft five-year plan for parks and outdoor recreation — and two public webinars are scheduled for those who want to get involved.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) will hold virtual sessions on Thursday, October 2 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to present the draft Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) and gather public feedback.

What the plan includes

The SCORP serves as the state’s strategic guide for outdoor recreation — shaping decisions around park access, land preservation, and funding priorities. It also helps determine how state and federal recreation funds are distributed.

The 2025–2030 draft SCORP includes a Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) and outlines goals for the next five years. It is available for review at:

How to register for a webinar

To attend either session, send an email to [email protected] with your name, preferred webinar time (1 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.), and your organization, if applicable. A confirmation and webinar link will be sent a few days before the event.

The registration deadline is Monday, September 29 at 5 p.m.

Comment period open through October 26

Public comments on the draft plan and environmental review will be accepted until October 26, 2025. For questions or to request a printed copy, email [email protected] or call 518-474-0409.
