Haifa Smoked Fish is recalling two of its cold-smoked seafood products due to possible listeria contamination, the company announced this week.
The recall affects 8 oz. packages of Cold Smoked Salmon (Lot #219) and Cold Smoked Seabass (Lot #212) distributed nationwide. Both products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
While no illnesses have been reported, the contamination was discovered during routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors. Testing confirmed the presence of the bacteria in both affected products.
The recalled seafood was vacuum-sealed and packaged on paper board with flexible plastic.
