Otto Sitterly and Nicotra Racing cemented their place in supermodified racing history in 2025, celebrating a landmark season that delivered Sitterly’s 10th Oswego Speedway track championship — an all-time record at the “Steel Palace.”
Behind the wheel of a brand-new Hawk Jr. No. 7 chassis, Sitterly capped a consistent, dominant campaign with three Oswego victories, including marquee wins in the Jim Shampine Memorial and the $10,000-to-win Mr. Supermodified 75. The August triumph in the Mr. Supermodified sealed his path to the Novelis Supermodified points crown, which he officially clinched one week later on Championship Night.
The 2025 title marked Sitterly’s first Oswego track championship since 2019 but hardly a return from obscurity. In the years between, the veteran driver and Nicotra Racing captured three ISMA-MSS Supermodified Series championships, extending their reputation as one of the most dominant forces in the sport.
Sitterly now holds 60 career big block supermodified wins, ranking among the elite in division history. Nicotra Racing, meanwhile, pushed its Oswego win total to 54, trailing only Jim Shampine on the all-time list.
The team’s 2025 highlights included:
- Jim Shampine Memorial victory (June 14): Nicotra Racing’s 10th win in the prestigious event.
- ISMA-MSS Supermodified victory (June 28): Sitterly’s 10th career ISMA win.
- Mr. Supermodified 75 (Aug. 9): Otto’s sixth career win in the event, Nicotra’s fifth as a team.
- Supermodified Challenge title: A second crown in four years for the Nicotra-promoted series.
Sitterly’s consistency was as crucial as his victories, with seven top-five finishes and six podiums across Oswego’s regular season. He also led more than 100 laps in the Budweiser International Classic 200 before a fuel leak ended his run.
Reflecting on the title, Sitterly credited his longtime crew and team owner John Nicotra. “There are a lot of people behind the scenes over the years. Just a lot of years with this team and I have to thank everybody from the sponsors to John Nicotra,” Sitterly said. “There’s a core group to this team…there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team.’”
For Nicotra, the championship was another chapter in a remarkable partnership. “Otto continues to raise the bar at Oswego,” he said. “Winning the Shampine Memorial, Winged Super race, Mr. Supermodified and another track title in the same season is something we’ll remember for a long time.”
Since debuting in 2007, Nicotra Racing has accumulated 15 championships across Oswego, ISMA-MSS, and the Supermodified Challenge, solidifying its legacy as a powerhouse in supermodified racing.
