Ithaca police investigate death of man found unresponsive on bus

Ithaca police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive early Tuesday on a bus that had traveled from New York City to Ithaca.

Officers were called at about 1:11 a.m. July 7 to the 100 block of East Seneca Street for a medical assist complaint, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

Police said officers arrived and helped the Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance with an unresponsive man in a bus seat.

The man was identified as Anthony Zeigler, 52, of Ithaca. Police said Zeigler was on a transportation bus that had traveled from New York City to Ithaca after making one stop in Binghamton.

Emergency personnel provided lifesaving treatment at the scene and continued treatment while Zeigler was taken to Cayuga Medical Center, police said.

Zeigler was pronounced dead at Cayuga Medical Center from an unknown ailment, according to the release.

Police said there is no danger to the public. The cause of death remains under investigation.
