A Palmyra man was charged Tuesday after Wayne County deputies said lab testing confirmed cocaine was recovered during a May encounter along Route 21.
James P. Wilson was charged July 7 with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they found Wilson on May 3 lying on the side of Route 21 in the town of Palmyra. He was highly intoxicated and unable to care for himself, the sheriff's office said.
Wilson was taken by ambulance to Rochester General Hospital. Before he was transported, deputies recovered a substance suspected to be cocaine.
The sheriff's office said later lab results confirmed the substance was cocaine.
Wilson was issued an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Palmyra Town Court at 5 p.m. Aug. 4 to answer the charge.
