Massive crowds visit NYS Fair: How many? What will 2026 look like?

The Great New York State Fair saw a big attendance boost this year, topping last year’s total by more than 57,000 people.

More than 925,000 visitors passed through the gates over 13 days in Syracuse, a solid jump from 2024’s total of 868,745 — though still well below the 2019 record of more than 1.3 million.

Weekend highs, weekday dips

The biggest crowd came on Saturday, August 30, when more than 100,000 people packed the fairgrounds. That day’s total — 100,396 — was more than double the Saturday crowd in 2024.

Fairgoers also turned out strong on Sunday, August 31, and Friday, August 29. In contrast, Mondays saw much smaller numbers. Monday, August 25, drew just under 56,000 visitors — a steep drop from the same day last year.

The fair started slower than in 2024, with lower turnout on opening day and Sunday, August 24. But attendance picked up steadily in the second week.

New record still out of reach

Despite this year’s gains, the fair didn’t break any single-day records. Many of the all-time highs still date back to pre-pandemic years, including a massive 147,749 people on one Saturday in 2019.

Still, this summer’s turnout signals strong interest as the fair heads into its 2026 run, scheduled for August 26 through September 7.

Big plans brewing for 2026 NYS Fair

After 13 days of food, concerts, and crowds, organizers say they’re already working to make next year’s Great New York State Fair even better, according to CNY Central.

Fair Director Julie LaFave said they’re reviewing everything—from new vendor spots to bigger animal shows and upgraded entertainment. No detail is off the table.

Fairgoers are chiming in, too. Some want to see acts like Green Day or Noah Kahan hit the stage in 2026.
