Seneca Falls board to discuss consulting services amid questions about ProNexus

The Seneca Falls Town Board is scheduled to discuss a formal notice ending consulting services Tuesday, Oct. 6, as questions continue over the town’s spending on ProNexus. The published agenda does not identify the consultant involved in that discussion or say whether a vote is planned.

Last month former village mayor Brad Jones press the board to examine its reliance on ProNexus, a firm that assists the town with financial operations. Citing records he obtained through public records requests, Jones said the town paid the firm about $177,000 in 2025 and approximately $170,000 through mid-August 2026.

Jones argued that the cost deserves scrutiny as the town prepares its next budget and continues without a permanent town manager. He also urged the board to move ahead with a forensic financial audit that it voted to pursue earlier this year.

ProNexus’ role has drawn debate before. During a May board meeting, Michael McCarthy, who works for the firm, described it as a consulting company that helps municipalities with financial operations and reporting. The board rejected his appointment as town manager at that meeting.

Tuesday’s agenda gives no details about the proposed consulting-services discussion, including which contract it concerns or when any termination would take effect.

The board is also scheduled to consider changes involving its information technology vendors, several emergency sewer and stormwater repairs, and funding for the third phase of a Safe Routes to School project.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Seneca Falls Municipal Building, 130 Ovid St.
