New York State Police are asking potential victims to come forward after an Afton man allegedly posed as a 15- or 16-year-old while communicating with minors. Investigators say they have identified at least one victim and believe there may be others.
Christian Carolan, 21, was arrested Oct. 1 after investigators contacted him at an Afton residence, state police said. He is charged with three counts of first-degree rape, along with endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal mischief.
State police allege Carolan had sexual contact with a child younger than 13 and forced the child to perform sexual acts during at least one encounter. Investigators said Carolan resisted arrest and later kicked an investigator’s vehicle, damaging it.
Carolan was taken to the Chenango County Jail for arraignment and remanded on $40,000 cash bail, an $80,000 insurance company bail bond or a $120,000 partially secured bond.
Anyone who believes they had contact with Carolan, or has information about his interactions with minors, is asked to call state police at 607-561-7400 or email cpio@troopers.ny.gov. Police ask callers to reference case NY2601118650.
