New York Yankees All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. is moving back to second base beginning Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners, manager Aaron Boone confirmed on the Talkin’ Yanks podcast.
Chisholm had made 28 straight starts at third base since returning from an oblique injury in May but will shift back to his preferred position, where he trained all offseason before injuries forced lineup adjustments.
The 27-year-old Chisholm has been dealing with a sore right shoulder for weeks, which he said only affects him on throws, making the shorter tosses from second base a better fit. He’s currently batting .245 with 15 home runs, 38 RBI, and 10 steals in 59 games.
Boone now has options at third base, including 24-year-old utility man Oswald Peraza, who offers strong defensive skills and a better arm than DJ LeMahieu. The 36-year-old LeMahieu, hitting .266 with two home runs and 12 RBI, may see his role adjusted as the Yankees look to strenthen their infield defense.
