Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is taking the state’s comptroller to court, according to NBC New York, over refusal to reimburse legal fees tied to his battle with Attorney General Letitia James. The expenses stem from Cuomo’s effort to obtain records related to the AG’s 2021 report, which found harassment claims by 11 women to be credible. Cuomo denies the allegations.
His July 2024 lawsuit followed a denial of payment by Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, whose office argues taxpayers shouldn’t fund Cuomo’s defense. The case is set for a hearing Monday, March 24.
Cuomo’s lawyers say the documents are key to his defense, while critics—including NYC Comptroller Brad Lander—want him to personally foot the bill and repay state funds.
