New York cannabis sales surpass $1 billion milestone

New York State’s cannabis industry has exceeded $1 billion in retail sales, marking a major milestone in its growth, Governor Kathy Hochul announced. Over 275 licensed dispensaries are now operational, with more than half of licenses awarded to social and economic equity applicants, emphasizing minority and women-owned businesses.

The Office of Cannabis Management credits consumer demand and a resilient regulatory framework for the industry’s success. Efforts to combat illegal sales have led to the seizure of over 16,000 pounds of unsafe products.

Looking ahead, the industry is projected to become a $7 billion market by 2030, with plans to issue approximately 1,600 additional retail licenses to meet growing demand.
