Seneca County tourism sees growth, bright outlook for 2025

Tourism in Seneca County surged in 2024, driven by the April solar eclipse and strategic marketing efforts, The Finger Lakes Times reports. Jeff Shipley, president of the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce, highlighted increased visitors from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, with Philadelphia emerging as a key market.

Looking ahead, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Trail and the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival are expected to draw more visitors. A new tourism app launching in early 2025 will simplify reservations, and upcoming initiatives include improving site accessibility and celebrating the Erie Canal’s 200th anniversary.

Shipley emphasized continued efforts to measure tourism impact, including a study by Texas A&M University set for release next year.
