A serious crash in Freeville Wednesday evening led to a swift response from multiple agencies and heroic actions by bystanders who jumped in to help. The accident, which occurred at the intersection of West Dryden and Sheldon roads, involved a vehicle colliding with a house and catching fire, according to the Freeville Fire Department.
Freeville Fire and Dryden Ambulance were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m., with further aid requested from Dryden and Lansing fire departments. Officials credit courageous bystanders for extinguishing the fire and rescuing one of the victims from the burning vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
One patient was airlifted to a trauma center after being taken to Ithaca Airport, while a second patient was transported to Upstate Medical Center. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
