As the new academic year begins, Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) are enhancing mental health support for students, with Director of the Counseling Center Tasha Prosper leading the charge. Drawing on her background in multicultural counseling and research from Columbia University, Prosper has introduced a range of initiatives to promote student wellness.
“We offer students the tools for self-care and emotional nourishment that will hopefully aid them for a lifetime,” said Prosper. The Counseling Center provides free individual and group therapy, including support for anxiety, self-care, and resources specifically for first-year and transfer students.
One of Prosper’s signature programs, the HWS Sister Circle for women students of color, has expanded into multiple group therapy services. This year, the center will focus on walk-in, same-day services for students with immediate mental health concerns, reinforcing its commitment to accessible care.
