$9.8 million lottery ticket sold in Tompkins County

A single lottery ticket sold in a small Tompkins County village is now worth nearly $10 million.

The New York Lottery announced that one jackpot-winning ticket for the May 2 LOTTO drawing was sold at a Speedway store on Main Street in Groton. The ticket is valued at $9,800,000.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Speedway location at 202 Main St., according to lottery officials. No information about the winner has been released.

In the LOTTO game, players select six numbers from a field of one to 59. To claim the jackpot, all six numbers must match those drawn. Players who match five numbers plus the bonus number receive a second-tier prize.

Drawings are held twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8:15 p.m.

The New York Lottery remains the largest and most profitable lottery in North America, contributing billions annually to support public education across the state.
