The New York Mets (55-48) extended their win streak to five games with an 8-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves (54-48) on Friday night at Citi Field, but not before losing starting pitcher Kodai Senga to an injury.
Yankees blank Cubs to snap two-game skid Senga, making his season debut, left the game with one out in the sixth after suffering a left calf injury. He will undergo an MRI on Saturday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The right-hander allowed two runs on just two hits over 5.1 innings while walking one and striking out nine.
The Mets trailed 2-0 early but responded with a massive third inning, scoring seven of their eight runs. J.D. Martinez opened the scoring with a grand slam, his 11th of the season. Later in the frame, Mark Vientos smacked his 14th homer, a two-run shot, before Francisco Alvarez cranked his fifth.Â
Vientos collected his third RBI in the fourth with a bases-loaded walk.
The Mets look to take the first three games of this four-game series on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. with Tylor Megill on the bump.
