The New York Mets (55-48) extended their win streak to five games with an 8-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves (54-48) on Friday night at Citi Field, but not before losing starting pitcher Kodai Senga to an injury.
Senga, making his season debut, left the game with one out in the sixth after suffering a left calf injury. He will undergo an MRI on Saturday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The right-hander allowed two runs on just two hits over 5.1 innings while walking one and striking out nine.
The Mets trailed 2-0 early but responded with a massive third inning, scoring seven of their eight runs. J.D. Martinez opened the scoring with a grand slam, his 11th of the season. Later in the frame, Mark Vientos smacked his 14th homer, a two-run shot, before Francisco Alvarez cranked his fifth.Â
Vientos collected his third RBI in the fourth with a bases-loaded walk.
The Mets look to take the first three games of this four-game series on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. with Tylor Megill on the bump.
