Canandaigua’s water supply, sourced from Canandaigua Lake and treated at the city’s West Lake Road facility, consistently meets or surpasses state and federal standards, according to the latest water quality report.
This annual evaluation by the state Health Department concluded that the treatment processes, which include filtration, carbon addition, chlorination, and fluoride addition, effectively maintain the water’s safety for city residents and neighboring towns.
The comprehensive report highlighted a moderate risk of contamination due to agricultural activities around the lake, with potential threats from protozoa, phosphorus, and pesticides noted.
Despite these risks, the current preventive measures and treatment protocols ensure that the water remains within safe consumption limits, with only one exception noted in the Town of Bristol for slightly exceeding the levels of total trihalomethanes.
