Supplies at the Newark Food Closet are dangerously low, with the need for meal assistance becoming critical as schools let out for summer.

“All the subsidies are gone after COVID,” said Robert Barrett of the Newark Food Closet during a conversation with 13WHAM-TV. “Right now, we’re just getting bombarded every day.

The pantry, located on East Miller Street, is running on minimal supplies due to a lack of donations.

Summer is the toughest time for the nonprofit, leading to empty shelves throughout the pantry.

The food closet is now collaborating with Foodlink to provide food for local schools, ensuring students in need receive meals. Barrett emphasized the importance of community support.

Donations can be made at Citizens Bank in Newark, with pickup options available.
