Flags lowered for fallen Syracuse-area officers

  • Staff Report

Governor Kathy Hochul ordered flags to half-staff across New York in honor of two Syracuse law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. The flags were lowered from sunrise on Saturday, April 20, to sunset on Monday, April 22, for Onondaga Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Michael Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen.

Lieutenant Hoosock, a dedicated public servant of over two decades and a volunteer firefighter, tragically left behind his wife and three children. Officer Jensen, who joined the Syracuse Police Department in early 2022 and was recently recognized as Officer of the Month, is survived by his parents and siblings.

The community prepared for the final farewell, with Officer Jensen’s funeral scheduled for Saturday and Lieutenant Hoosock’s service on Monday. Governor Hochul expressed her condolences, emphasizing the profound loss of such dedicated officers.
