Allison Trapasso, a dedicated physical education teacher at Newark High School, was recently celebrated as the Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD) Central Western Zone. The prestigious award was presented to Trapasso on March 2 at SUNY Brockport, recognizing her exceptional dedication and passion for teaching. NYS AHPERD, a professional organization committed to enhancing the quality of health and physical education programs, serves members across eleven counties in New York State.

Trapasso’s nomination came from her SUNY Brockport professors, Sherri Treadwell and Alisa James, acknowledging her outstanding achievements and contributions to physical education. Their recommendation highlighted Trapasso’s commitment to excellence and her continuous efforts to improve her teaching skills. Upon receiving the award, Trapasso expressed her gratitude towards her professors and her joy in working with the students and athletes at Newark.

Jonathan Mastin, the district’s director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics, and Kelly A. Zielke, principal of Newark High School, both praised Trapasso’s impactful role in the school community. They lauded her ability to foster positive relationships and her leadership, which significantly enhances the educational experience for her students.
