Massive fire at Clark Specialty in Bath under investigation: Facility was “100% destroyed”

A massive fire broke out at the Clark Specialty Company in Bath late on March 11, drawing a huge response from emergency services.

Reported around 9 p.m. at 36 Delaware Avenue, the site of the former Babcock Ladder Company, the blaze sent flames and heavy smoke billowing into the sky, attracting onlookers and disrupting traffic on Interstate 86.

Responders included the Bath Volunteer Fire Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and several other local fire departments, with NYSEG and Steuben County Director of Public Safety Tim Marshall also present.

The fire was declared under control by 12:45 a.m. after intense efforts from firefighters to manage the situation. Despite the challenging conditions, including downed power lines and a collapsing roof, no injuries were reported. The building suffered extensive damage, with Public Information Officer John Conrad noting it was “100% destroyed.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Steuben County Fire Investigation Team.
