A car crash last month in Cato was attributed to alcohol, according to law enforcement officials. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that deputies responded to an incident on February 26, where a vehicle, driven by Latrelle McKinney of Liverpool, veered off an embankment and crashed into a field after failing to manage a sharp curve on Emerson Road near the Cato Conquest Town Line Road.

McKinney, who miraculously escaped injury, was suspected of driving under the influence. Following a chemical breath test at the public safety building, it was determined that she had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.14%, exceeding the legal limit. As a result, McKinney faced charges of Driving While Intoxicated among other traffic violations.
She was issued tickets and is slated to appear at Cato Town Court on March 3. The incident underscores the ongoing issue of alcohol-impaired driving and its potential dangers on the road.
