Another Auburn restaurant has been sold, but the new owner doesn’t plan to keep it for long.
Auctioneer Dean Cummins purchases historic restaurant
The Citizen reports the Sunset Restaurant on North Division St. went on the auction block, but when there was only one bidder, auctioneer Dean Cummins decided to purchase it himself. Cummins said the only other buyer placed “contingencies” on the purchase, so he acquired the restaurant himself for $350,000.

Cummins, who owns several other businesses, says he plans to reopen the Sunset and resell it. He says he’s working on getting a state liquor license. He says the building is in good shape, so it won’t take much work to reopen.

New owner willing to listen to offers
Cummins says if anyone wants to buy the Sunset from him before he closes on the sale at the end of the month, he’s willing to listen to offers.
The Sunset opened in 1933. Owner Peter Sedor operated it until he passed away in 2020. His wife, Mary took over, but was forced to close due to restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
