What is Ticket to Work?

Ticket to Work is designed to help people with disabilities return to the workforce and become financially independent. Anyone from age 18 to 64 who receives Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can join the program. Ticket to Work is a free participation program.

This program is great because it helps disabled Americans reenter the workforce while still getting their disability and health care benefits.

There are two providers for the program:

  • Employment Networks- employers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or a combination will work together  to coordinate services for Ticket to Work participants.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation agencies- these are state-level agencies that provide education, skills training, workplace accommodation, and other services that someone might require to be able to work. Participants that complete vocational rehabilitation can then move on to the Employment Network program.

How do you join?

Since Ticket to Work started in 2002, more than 1.5 million people have joined. In 2021, nearly 318,000 people participated in the program.
