Work is set to begin on a $15.5 million improvement project on 16 miles of the NY State Thruway in Ontario, Seneca, and Cayuga Counties.
Roadway and safety improvements for 16 miles of Thruway in Finger Lakes
The Citizen reports seven miles of the Thruway roughly between Exits 41 and 42 will be milled and resurfaced, as will three bridges along the route. The project will also include safety improvements along a nine-mile segment near Exit 40 in Weedsport. The work will include new guide rails and reflective markings. In a statement, Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said “more than 69,000 motorists travel on these two sections of the Thruway every day, and this project ensures their travels will be on a safe and reliable transportation system.” This is one of several infrastructure improvement projects in our capital program which reinvests toll dollars into the system to keep the Thruway one of the safest superhighways in the country.”

The contract was awarded to Rifenburg Construction of Troy. The work is expected to be finished by this fall.
There may be lane closures during the project. Signs will keep motorists up to date.
