Geneva: Routes 5&20 construction moves along with some delays anticipated

Construction on Routes 5&20 is moving along but delays might occur, said the City of Geneva’s Public Works Director Joe Venuti on Monday.

The project includes reducing the highway from four lanes to two in Geneva’s downtown area. Venuti gave a project update to the city’s Business Improvement District and others on Monday, May 2 at city hall.

What’s the project timeline?

“The plan is to be done by October,” said Venuti, according to Finger Lakes Times. “The heavy lifting [for Castle and Exchange] is over.”

He added that about 40% of work is done at this point. Venuti said contractor Nardozzi Construction may ask for an extension for some project elements to be completed after the October deadline. The extension may be necessary as the delivery of some traffic-control equipment is delayed for 20-36 weeks.

Venuti also said Nardozzi may ramp up milling and paving on Castle and Exchange streets with pavement set to arrive in May.
