SSI benefit payments worth as much as $841 are being sent to millions of Americans today, April 1.
These are for those who collect SSI, and recipients can expect two checks for the month of April.
8 million Americans are estimated to receive SSI benefits, which cover disabled adults and children, plus elderly over 65.
The average check is worth $621 per month with the 2022 COLA increase of 5.9%.
Why are there two SSI payments for the month of April?
Whenever payment day lands on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made the Friday or business day before.
The first of May lands on a Sunday, making it so the benefits will need to go out the Friday before on April 29.
This means recipients can expect checks on April 1 and April 29, 2022.
Those who collect Social Security will not be impacted in the same way.
