Waterloo Dollar General still condemned: Company apologizes, pledges to reopen eventually

The Dollar General store located at 1328 Waterloo-Geneva Road has been closed since January 15 after a carbon monoxide leak was detected from its HVAC system.

The store, positioned just outside the village boundary in the town of Waterloo, has been unable to reopen due to difficulties in acquiring the necessary parts to repair the malfunction.

A warning sign declaring the building condemned has been posted on the store’s entrance, highlighting the danger posed by the unsafe levels of carbon monoxide found within.

Dollar General has extended apologies to its customers for the inconvenience caused by the closure and expressed intentions to reopen as soon as repairs are completed. “Dollar General’s store at 1328 Waterloo Geneva Road is currently closed as we address HVAC concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause Seneca County customers, and we look forward to welcoming them back to our store soon,” corporate officials told FingerLakes1.com earlier this month.

The issue was first identified by the Waterloo Fire Department, which discovered “extremely high” levels of carbon monoxide, leading to the building’s condemnation.
