Segregated schools are not providing adequate education to students

New York State has an education clause that states the legislature must provide maintenance and support of a system of free common schools, wherein all the children of this state may be educated.

This means adequate education must be provided through schools in the state of New York, and a segregated school is not adequate.

A desegregation lawsuit has not been brought against the state of New York, but the option is there.

Dan Romeo, Syracuse School Board President, told CNYCentral that he can’t say it would not take legal action, but steps need to be taken before getting to that point.
