Syracuse men’s basketball to host Cornell December 21

Syracuse will host Central New York counterpart Cornell on Tuesday, December 21, in the Dome.

Series Notes

  • Cornell is Syracuse’s second-most common opponent, having faced the Orange 125 times. The Orange lead the all-time series, 94-31.
  • Syracuse owns a 39-game winning streak against its Ivy League foe. The last Cornell triumph against the ‘Cuse came at Barton Hall in 1968, when the Big Red scored a 93-81 victory.
  • The teams first met in 1901, when Syracuse won, 18-15, in just the second game in program history.

Cornell did not compete during the 2020-21 season after the Ivy League Council of Presidents decided not to conduct intercollegiate athletic competitions for winter sports. In 2019-20, the Big Red finished the season with a 7-20 overall record. Current Syracuse forward Jimmy Boeheim led Cornell in scoring that season with 16.7 points per contest. The Big Red are led by coach Brian Earl, who owns a 42-73 record in four seasons at the helm in Ithaca.

Syracuse was 18-10 last season and secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The eleventh-seeded Orange upset San Diego St. and West Virginia to advance to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to Final Four-bound Houston.
