The city of Auburn has a new police chief.
Lt. James Slayton was confirmed to be the proposed police chief, pending approval from City Council.
Slayton will succeed Chief Shawn Butler, who is retiring after 25 years of service.
Officials say Slaton has been with the department for 23 years. He was promoted to lieutenant when Butler became chief.
