New guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control outline what steps might be necessary for school to resume in the fall.
The guidelines include maintaining six feet of distance between desks, maintaining similar distance on buses, students eating pre-packaged meals for lunch in classrooms, and cancellation of school trips and extracurricular activities.
Essentially, it won’t be the same school experience, or anything anyone has been familiar with for the last several decades.
The CDC also recommends that students and teachers wear masks at all times. Teachers are concerned that would make educating more difficult.
Scheduling would also be a challenge – because the CDC is recommending that students stay with individual teachers for as much time as possible.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this week that summer school would not take place in-person. He has said it’s too early to make a decision about the fall start.
