Health care, nonprofit and government leaders will meet July 28 in Syracuse to prepare for changes to Medicaid eligibility requirements scheduled to take effect in 2027. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club, with registration opening 30 minutes before the program.
The program, called "The Changing Medicaid Landscape: Preparing for What's Ahead," is designed for leaders and staff at health and social-service organizations that serve Medicaid recipients or expect the new requirements to affect their work. Organizers said the event is not intended for individual Medicaid enrollees or the general public.
Event organizers said new paperwork requirements under federal law could cause more than 1 million New Yorkers to lose coverage if they do not successfully complete the renewal process. They expect the changes to affect health care providers, community organizations and local governments as well as residents seeking care and other services.
Joelle Hutson of Oswego County Opportunities will moderate a panel featuring Cindy Wilcox of the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, Onondaga County Medicaid Director Kenneth Ellis, Tiffany Sturdivant of United Hospital Fund and ConnextCare President and CEO Tricia Peter Clark.
Participants will also take part in information-sharing sessions and breakout discussions focused on regional preparation and collaborative solutions.
Foodnet Meals on Wheels, the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, Oswego County Opportunities and Seven Valleys Health Coalition are presenting the event with sponsorship from the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York. Lunch will be provided, and advance registration is required.
