Vehicle strikes Ithaca home after driver swerves, police say

A vehicle struck an unoccupied Ithaca home at about 11:24 Wednesday morning after its driver swerved to avoid another vehicle, according to city police. No injuries were reported.

Police said the driver was traveling east on Clinton Street with the right of way when another vehicle failed to yield at the Plain Street intersection. The eastbound driver took evasive action, lost control, crossed the sidewalk and hit the home on the southeast corner.

The residence had minimal exterior damage, police said. The Plain and Clinton streets intersection was reduced to one lane for about an hour while officers worked at the scene.

Police asked anyone with information to call dispatch at 607-272-3245, administration at 607-272-9973 or the tip line at 607-330-0000. Anonymous tips may be submitted at cityofithaca.org/ipdtips.
