Sabres sign Peyton Krebs to four-year, M contract, avoiding arbitration

The Buffalo Sabres avoided salary arbitration with forward Peyton Krebs, agreeing to a four-year contract worth an average annual value of $4.5 million, the team announced Monday. The new deal gives the restricted free agent a significant raise after he played the past two seasons on a contract carrying a $1.45 million annual cap hit.

Krebs is coming off the best season of his NHL career, appearing in all 82 games while setting career highs with 12 goals and 39 points. The 25-year-old averaged 13 minutes of ice time per game and also contributed six points in 13 postseason contests. Buffalo acquired Krebs from the Vegas Golden Knights in November 2021 as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Jack Eichel to Vegas.

The agreement leaves the Sabres with just over $5 million in available salary cap space, according to PuckPedia. Buffalo has made a handful of roster moves since capturing the Atlantic Division title, including losing Alex Tuch in a sign-and-trade with the Washington Capitals, trading defenseman Michael Kesselring to the San Jose Sharks and acquiring defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks. The Krebs deal secures another key piece of the Sabres’ young core before the start of the 2026-27 season.
