Canandaigua man jailed after messages violated protection order, deputies say

A Canandaigua man was jailed Tuesday after Ontario County deputies said he sent multiple messages to a person protected by a full stay-away order.

Joshua Cooper, 33, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt following the 7 a.m. investigation in Phelps, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the messages violated an active order of protection. The release did not provide further information about the messages or identify the protected person.

Cooper was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment in centralized arraignment court. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Phelps Town Court at a later date.

The charge is an allegation, and Cooper is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
