Mario Kart Tour Shutdown Confirmed by Nintendo After 7 Years as Players Lose Access Without Offline Mode

Nintendo has announced the end of Mario Kart Tour after nearly seven years of operation. The mobile racing game will officially end service at 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Sept. 29, 2026, which is 2:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 30. With the servers shutting down, players will no longer be able to access the game, bringing to a close one of Nintendo’s longest-running mobile titles.

The shutdown is especially notable as Nintendo has no plans to release an offline version of Mario Kart Tour. While some shut-down mobile games let players keep their progress or access some select content after online support ends, Mario Kart Tour requires an active internet connection. That means when the service closes, its races, characters, karts, progression systems and other content won’t be available.

Mario Kart Mobile: The Seven Years of Fun End

Mario Kart Tour arrived on iOS and Android in September 2019, bringing Nintendo’s beloved racing franchise to mobile phones with simplified touch controls and a constant rotation of tours. Over the years the game added a huge roster of drivers, karts, gliders, courses, ranked competitions, multiplayer races, and special events.

The game initially received a lot of new content, but Nintendo really dialed back active development in 2023. After that the service was kept alive primarily by returning tours and back-catalog material. Even with the cut down update schedule Mario Kart Tour was still playable and had a vibrant community until Nintendo declared the full shutdown.

No Offline Version Complete Access Loss

The shutdown will probably be most controversial for not having an offline edition. Mario Kart Tour requires a Nintendo Account and a permanent internet connection, so the app simply can’t continue to work locally once the servers are shut down.

Nintendo had previously handled Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp differently by making a separate paid version that could still work without the original live-service model. Mario Kart Tour will not receive the same treatment, so players will not be able to keep the game playable once September arrives. The Verge

Gold Pass Changes Kick In Before Shutdown

The company is also revamping the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass as its final months of service are near. Players with active subscriptions at the time maintenance begins on July 7, 2026 will continue to receive most Gold Pass benefits free of charge until the shutdown. Starting with the Vacation Tour on August 4, players who do not have an active subscription will also receive free access to most of the Gold Pass benefits until the service concludes.

The perks include Gold Gifts, Gold Challenges, 200cc races, increased daily limits for base points and coins, faster progress in multiplayer pipes, and a higher multiplayer grade limit. The free last-period access does not include rewards for continuous subscription.

Final Verdict

Mario Kart Tour to end in US after nearly seven years of operation The game will close down in the US on September 29. Nintendo decided there is no offline mode, so if the servers go down, players lose all access. Access to Gold Pass and continuing opportunities to play will change in the final months, but the shut down is the permanent end to Nintendo’s mobile Mario Kart experience. Veteran players will have the other remaining time to revisit their favorite courses, use collected characters and enjoy the game before it’s gone.
