Five people were arrested after state police investigated a reported altercation involving a firearm in Wayne County and recovered two loaded handguns from a vehicle, troopers said.
State police said troopers responded around 4:56 p.m. June 30 to a report of a physical altercation involving a firearm near William Street and Queen Street in the village of Lyons.
Investigators determined that a verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation involving multiple people. During the incident, police said, one occupant of a vehicle allegedly displayed a firearm, threatened the victim and prevented others from intervening.
Troopers located the suspect vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Trax, and stopped it on Geneva Street in the town of Lyons. State police said all five occupants were safely detained.
During a protective frisk and later search of the vehicle, troopers recovered two loaded handguns, including a loaded 9mm CZ P-07 with a conversion kit and laser attachment and a loaded Ruger .45-caliber pistol that had been reported stolen by the Rochester Police Department in September 2024.
Troopers also recovered multiple high-capacity magazines and ammunition.
Justin T. Letts, 20, of Geneva, was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree menacing.
Brandon Thomas, 19, of Waterloo; Najib H. Brown, 21, of Waterloo; Harmonajah D. Shorter, 20, of Waterloo; and Latrell A. Graves, 19, of Savannah, were each charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
All five were processed at the state police barracks in Lyons and taken to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment. The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation.
