The New York Yankees welcomed back two key position players Friday, activating center fielder Trent Grisham and third baseman Ryan McMahon from the injured list ahead of their series opener against the Minnesota Twins. The roster moves came with a significant setback, however, as left-hander Carlos Rodón was placed on the 15-day injured list because of left elbow inflammation. Utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to clear a roster spot.Grisham returns after missing nearly three weeks with a hamstring strain. The 29-year-old has been a regular at the top of the Yankees’ lineup, batting .232 with a .341 on-base percentage, eight home runs, 35 RBIs and six stolen bases in 66 games. McMahon, who had been sidelined since June 21 with ear and throat ailments, also rejoins the club after appearing in 69 games this season, hitting .210 with eight homers and 23 RBI.Rodón’s injury comes on the heels of one of his sharpest outings of the season. The veteran left-hander allowed just one hit and no earned runs over five innings against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. The three-time All-Star owns a 4-2 record with a 3.30 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 26 walks in 46.1 innings across nine starts. He had been scheduled to start Saturday against Minnesota.
