Two Southern Tier airports will receive more than $2.2 million in federal aviation grants for design and construction work, part of a broader $2.36 million funding package announced Tuesday by U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy.
The funding comes through the Federal Aviation Administration's fiscal year 2026 Airport Improvement Grant program and will support projects at Corning-Painted Post Airport, Elmira/Corning Regional Airport and Akron/Jesson Field.
Elmira/Corning Regional Airport will receive $2,038,181 to acquire and install a new passenger boarding bridge. The grant funds the final construction phase of the project, according to Langworthy's office.
Corning-Painted Post Airport will receive $185,895 for design work tied to an apron expansion and pavement rehabilitation project. The project would add 870 square yards to the existing transient aircraft apron and rehabilitate 16,350 square yards of apron pavement to maintain structural integrity and reduce foreign object debris.
Akron/Jesson Field will receive $141,188 for design work on a new 500-foot taxi lane that would provide airfield access to a non-exclusive hangar development area.
Langworthy said the grants are intended to help upgrade and modernize regional airports in New York's 23rd Congressional District.
"Our regional airports are critical to commerce and emergency response as well as recreational travel, and it's vital that we make the necessary investments to keep them operating safely and efficiently," Langworthy said in the announcement.
Langworthy's office said he previously announced nearly $6.4 million in federal grants this year for airports in Jamestown, Wellsville and Dunkirk.
