Penn Yan police help revive unresponsive man at local business

Penn Yan police officers helped revive a man in his 70s after he was found unresponsive and not breathing at a local business June 24.

Officers Gabriel Wood and Ken Eldridge and Investigator Wayne Marsh responded to the business after a report of an unresponsive man, according to the Penn Yan Police Department.

Police said officers found the man lying on the floor. He was not breathing and had turned purple.

Wood immediately began CPR while Eldridge retrieved an automated external defibrillator from a patrol vehicle. After the AED was applied, it advised that a shock be delivered, and officers administered one shock.

Police said the man regained spontaneous breathing after the shock. Penn Yan Ambulance personnel arrived shortly afterward and took over patient care.

Officers then provided traffic control to help the ambulance move safely through intersections while transporting the patient. The man was later flown to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Police said the man was reported to be in stable condition.
